Recently, the ABC hit television series, Extreme Makeover Home Edition, visited the Tidewater area of Virginia. Beverly Hill, a resident of Virginia Beach and the mother of six adopted daughters, was selected as the recipient of a brand new home. Beverly received this honor in recognition for all she has done for orphaned children and the homeless in the area. W.O. Grubb Crane Rental was proud to be able to donate their manpower and equipment in giving back to Ms. Hill. One of Grubb’s Grove GMK 5120B’s, a 120 ton All Terrain Crane was used for the critical lifts in the construction of the new house. The crane helped piece together the modular units that were costumed designed for the project, erect the walls for the second story, hoist the trusses for the roof, and even provide aerial camera footage. “The projected was under very tight time constraints” says Grubb Crane Specialist Dean Spruill, “We had exactly 106 hours to demolish the house, and construct a new one in its place”. Larry Becker, Portsmouth’s Branch Manager, said “This event was a great opportunity for Grubb to give even more back to our community, we are constantly involved in several other charities through-out the year and are always pleased when we find such a worthy cause”. Along with their donations to Extreme Home Makeover Edition, Larry Becker’s team in Portsmouth is highly involved in other charities like Breast Cancer Awareness, Ride for the Pink, Wounded Warriors Project, Homes for Hero’s, Military Concert Series, Relay for Life, Leukemia Lymphoma society and Special Olympics. W.O. Grubb’s equipment and operators can be seen during the episodes airing at 8pm April 24th 2011 on ABC.
